Session Description: With the global view and belief system that cannabis products are safe and medicinal, it has made treatment of substance use disorders more challenging. This training will focus on how to engage the client with a substance use disorder diagnosis and are either still using cannabis or have an intention of returning to cannabis use after they have completed their obligations for abstinence. Participants will be given recent statistics, demographics and trends of current usage. They will also be given clinical strategies and examples of effective engagement to help the clients better understand their substance use disorders, mental health, medical conditions, intention of use and how cannabis may exacerbate these conditions.

Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate understanding of cannabis products and how use could impact abstinence based treatment.
Upon completion, participants will be able to increase their level of comfort in addressing cannabis use concerns with even the most reluctant clients while incorporating harm reduction techniques.
Upon completion, participants will be able to utilize clinical strategies to engage the client and their desire to use cannabis and how it also relates to other addictive disorders.
