Dr. Wachell McKendrick served for the last 17 years as an Assistant Professor in Social Work at the Florida A&M University. She has also served as the Graduate Program Director for the Master of Social Work Program (MSW) where her skills in credentialing resulted in the program being reaccredited for 8 years. Her professional life in the clinical area of Substance abuse treatment, trauma, and violence spans 36 years. She has worked as a Counselor, Facility Coordinator, Clinical Supervisor, Quality Assurance Director, and Executive Director in the substance abuse treatment field. She has worked for the Department of the Army, in community-based non profit and state agencies in the area in substance use treatment with clients along the life span.
Her research interests include increasing awareness of domestic violence issues among college students, understanding psychosocial factors that impact student success, and the Black family. She has written and published articles on these topics.
Dr. McKendrick received her Ph.D. in Family Relations from the Florida State University in 2011. She received her MSW degree from Barry University and her BA degree in Psychology from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2001 and 1981, respectively. A native of Miami, Florida, she currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida where she enjoys community work in Rotary International, The Leon County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, and work focused on girl and women empowerment. She loves travelling, playing and spending time with her grandchildren.
